What To Expect When You Visit

What To Expect When You Visit

Whether you are coming back to church after being away for a while or you're trying it out for the first time, it can be quite intimidating to walk into a place where you've never been before.  We want you to feel comfortable when you visit.  We'll have caring people ready to greet you and help you find your way.

Below are some frequently asked questions that may help you feel more at ease as you plan your visit with us.  If you have other questions, don't hesitate to contact us by email (info@wwcog.com) or visit the Connections Center in the Lobby when you arrive.

When Are Services?

Services are on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in our Sanctuary.

9:00 a.m. worship is traditional in style and format.  Hymns and chorus are sung with reverence, joy and adoration.  Scripture, prayers, and special music are elements of our worship and they often synchronize with the message presented from the Bible.

At 10:15 a.m. Connections Cafe invites people to sit around table with a drink, a donut or a bagel to get better acquainted and enjoy the fellowship among friends and newcomers.  Refreshments are free to all, although some will make a donation in support of this ministry of hospitality.

11:00 a.m. worship is casual in style and format.  We use high-energy and contemplative music, video, and other creative elements to communicate truth in a contemporary and relevant way.

All services typically last 75 minutes.

What Should I Wear?

We want you to feel comfortable.  After all, we are thrilled that you're joining us and want you to be more focused on experiencing the presence of Christ in worship than what you are wearing.  In the summertime, it's not uncommon to see people wearing sandals, shorts and a shirt.  Others prefer to still put on their "Sunday Best," and that's fine, too!  We think you'll fit in no matter how you dress.

How Do I Get To Westwood Church of God?

Westwood Church of God is located just north of W. Main St. on Gorham Ln., in the Westwood Community of Kalamazoo, MI.

From Downtown:  Take W. Main (Michigan Ave) west.  Once you pass the traffic light at Nichols and W. Main, you will find Gorham Ln. the second street on the right.  Turn right.  The church is located one block north of W.Main.

From US 131:

Where Should I Park?

You may park in any available spot around our building; there is no reserved parking, although guests and those with limited mobility are encouraged to park in the west parking lot near the main entrance ramp.  Entrances to the building can be found at the South Parking area under the covered drop off area and at the West Parking areas near the main entrances.

Where Do My Children Go?

Kid's Connection is the perfect place for your children infant through fifth grade to go while you attend the 11:00 a.m. worship service.  Nursery services are available for children under 4 years old during both services.  If you would like your children to go to Kid's Connection, visit the Children's Welcome Center located on the lower level.  Your children will be checked in, and you will receive a receipt sticker which you will need in order to pick up your child at the end of service.

You will also notice a three-digit alpha-numeric cod on your receipt (example: Q4Z).  This code is used discreetly by our children's ministry staff to notify parents if help is needed with their child.  This alpha-numeric code will appear on the projection screen in the Sanctuary to alert a parent that is needed.  This code will display until the parent comes to take care of the child.

For the safety and security of your child, it is important that you keep track of your receipt sticker.  This helps us know that you are the person authorized to pick up your child.

Am I Expected To Put Money In The Offering?

If you are visiting with us, we don't expect you to put money in the offering, and you are welcome to just lit it pass you by.  If you consider Westwood your church home, we'd love for you to prayerfully consider giving to Westwood.  You can give by check or cash during the service, or you can set up an online giving account (Coming Soon!).

I Have Hearing and/or Visual Problems?  Is There Any Special Assistance?

Yes!  For those who are hearing impaired, we have special hearing devices that you can wear that will allow you to control the volume.  If you think this would be beneficial to you, pick one up at the Connections Center in the Lobby.

For those who are visually impaired, we have video projectin in the Sanctaury to assist you in worship.
